The Future is Now - iPhone 3.0
6/19/2009 7:00:00 PM
There has been a lot going on in the land of iPhone development that has kept me very busy. The number of companies requesting my services had increased providing engagements that would range from a few hours to solve a problem that they have been stopped at for weeks,or longer multi-week projects.
The work involved quite a bit of NDAs which meant that there was little if anything I could post, and I had to stay quite as I worked. A few very sparse Twitter posts went out, but nothing too detailed that would give away anything and thereby compromising a client's NDA.
As some of the things have been lifted I can say that push notification and associated work really became the main focal point of quite a but of development work. This would be designing and also writing the actual back-ends for the push information to move to Apple's server and eventually the user's iPhone. This work is not in the front and people tend to forget how important it is to actually make the applications and services that we have all grown accustomed to run.
The level of work that I have been getting has really been amazing. I don't now if this is because companies are preparing for the iPhone 3.0 software rush, or an overall slowing and improvement in the economy. This could be the start of a new catch phrase, the iPhone 3.0 effect.
The real test is to see in a few months how many more million iPhone can be sold and tens of thousands of apps written.
