GM/Segway Partner on Two Wheeled Vehicle

In an announcement today, GM and Segway have debuted a two wheels, two seater electric vehicle. The vehicle was developed under the codename PUMA, stands for Personal Urban Mobility Accessibility. The lithium ion powered vehicle is capable of moving at speeds up to 35mph.

more... The unique two-wheel design is the same that is found on the Segway HT. By using two electric motors at each wheel, the vehicle is capable of balancing itself upright, turning and forward travel. The technology used by Segway has been proven over the past few years and has been reliable.

The P.U.M.A. currently has not cost listed, but should be rather expensive if the Segway HT is to be used as a measure of the cost. Although innovative, whether or not the vehicle will be priced reasonably to make a difference on the number of cars within urban areas is as yet unknown. The high cost may also be the largest drawback to the P.U.M.A. especially if a small car can be purchased for $10,000.
