The Economy: It just keeps getting worse

3/31/2009 9:00:00 AM

I haven't had much time to comment on the economy since I have been busy with wrapping up some client projects. Now that I have a little more time I wanted to write and talk about the ever worsening situation that exists.

When I travel I have been keeping note of how many stores are for rent in strip malls and in what would have been prime real estate markets only twelve months ago. Now they sit vacant, with few possibilities for being rented available.

There are quite a few shops on Madison Avenue in New York City that have become available for rent. Some portions of the street are so bad that it appears that the entire block has been shut down and abandoned.

No matter what the ''experts'' say, the economy isn't getting better any time soon. The three major automakers in the U.S., GM, Ford and Chrysler are hurting as few people go out and purchase new vehicles. Ford and GM have today announced new programs that if you are laid-off they will help with the payments of your car loan or lease for a limited time.

This action is in response to the lack of confidence that consumers are experiencing in purchasing vehicles. How can a person be confident when they cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel during this time of darkness?
