What new products may Apple talk about today? The company may promote new Macs, MacBooks and software. The Macbook Air has not been updated for a number of years and has fallen behind it's competitors in screen, processor and solid state storage. At the Apple event today, the company has updated the products that largely took a backseat to the iPhone and iPad launches over the past few years.
Today the company announced a new MacBook Air, Mac Mini and iPad Pro to a packed audience in the Brooklyn Academy of Music, in Brooklyn NY. The MacBook Air had long been the leader in ultra compact laptops but had not been upgraded for a number of years, allowing Windows based machines to increase in screen resolution, storage space, memory and processing power. The other forgotten product that had not seen an upgrade in a few years was the Mac Mini. The small favorite of budget minded developers, hosting services and server farms was seriously lagging behind in the technology inside, but Apple finally breathed new life into the aging platform.
Let's start the the MacBook Air. The small laptop which debuted with Steve Jobs pulling it from a manila envelope has finally been upgraded with a Retina display, faster processor, more available memory, larger solid state storage and all aluminum enclosure. The price of the new MacBook Air begins at $1199 and is available for pre-order today with in store purchasing available next week
The other long neglected piece of technology that Apple updated was the MacMini. The small and still lowest priced entry point into Mac OsX was updated with a new processor, enclosure, RAM and storage. The updated MacMini will be a great upgrade to business that relied on the machines as servers and development machines.
