One Day To Go

There's only one day remaining before Apple makes the long anticipated announcement on their tablet. If Apple rumors are true, the tablet will have ebooks as a major component and serve as a potential boon for the floundering publishing business.

The Apple tablet will be released with the ability to run 130,000 plus applications available in the iTunes App store and a few tricks that we have yet to see in the iPhone OS. The chief feature is multi-tasking.

Although the current iPhone has multitasking capabilities, this feature is only available on the overall system level to a select few applications. Applications enjoy the benefits of multitasking only within their sandbox. A tablet with more memory, processing power and larger battery capacity will be able to multi-task all applications.

If Apple can successfully launch the tablet as an educational accessory the will be priced at $499-999 we may yet see the a revival in the publishing business and a shift in portable lightweight computing. No longer will the market look towards netbooks as the lightweight mobile computing standard. They will instead be replaced by the tablets.
