Google Nexus One Announcement

The Google Nexus One announcement has begun. So far we have:

• 3.7 AMOLED screen
• Quallcomm Snapdragon 1Ghz processor
• Light and Proximity sensors
• 5 megapixel camera with LED flash.
• Unlocked phone for $530
• 800x480 pixel resolution
• 720x480 pixel video resolution up to 20 frames per second.
• WiFi (802.11b/g/n)
• Removable battery

The phone does not have the ability to store more than 512MB of app storage. It seems that Google was concerned about the threat of app piracy. In a future upgrade they plan on adding application encryption to allow storage on SD cards.

The Nexus One will ship today in an unlocked version. I attemped to purchase one with T-Mobile service but was unable to do so. This situation may change at a later date.

There are inherit problems with the 3G speeds in the US versus those in Europe. While able to work in the US, speeds on AT&T network speed may only be EDGE.

Android 2.1 will be available within a few days to developers.
